Coverage

The venues we put side by side

Five marketplaces priced against each other, plus Steam — which the table treats differently, and for a very good reason.

Skinport

Buy & sell
European marketplace with cash payouts and free SEPA withdrawal. Its seller fee is the highest of the set we track, which is exactly why comparing listed prices instead of net ones nudges people toward it.

CSFloat

Buy & sell
Float- and pattern-led, and the lowest seller fee of the venues we track — so a listing that looks the same here often nets you more than it does elsewhere.

DMarket

Buy & sell
Broad catalogue on a tiered fee schedule, so the rate applied to your item is not one flat number. We use the venue's own model rather than rounding it to a single rate.

BitSkins

Buy & sell
Long-running marketplace with cash withdrawal and a fee near the upper end of the set. Priced on both legs, like every other venue here.

Waxpeer

Buy & sell
Mid-fee marketplace sitting between the cheap and the expensive ends of the set — often the difference between a spread that works and one that doesn't.

Steam

Reference only
The deepest market for most skins, and the one you cannot cash out of. Steam is carried as a reference price and shown as un-cashable — never as a place to sell.

Fee models, payout methods and trade holds are documented per venue. Compare the marketplaces

The number

How the spread is actually calculated

Two different numbers get called 'the spread'. One is the sticker-price gap; the other is what you would keep. Only the second one is worth anything.

  1. 1

    Start with the gross gap

The raw dispersion between the cheapest and the priciest listing for the same item, as a percentage of the cheapest. This is the big, flattering number — and the one nobody's bank account ever sees.
  2. 2

    Subtract the selling venue's fee

Every venue takes a cut on the sell side, and the cuts differ by several percentage points. We apply each venue's own fee model to the price on that venue, not one blanket rate across the board.
  3. 3

    Then FX and cashout friction

Venues quote in different currencies and pay out over different rails. Both cost you something on the way from 'sold' to 'money in an account', and both come off before the number reaches the table.
  4. 4

What's left is the net spread

Buy at the cheapest venue, sell at the best net venue, keep the difference — expressed as a percentage of what you would pay. It is routinely negative, which is precisely why it is the column we sort by.

What the number can't price in

The net spread is honest about fees. It cannot be honest about these, so we would rather name them than let you find out afterwards.

Trade holds

Some venues and some trades put an item on hold for days before it is yours to move. A spread you can only realise next week is a different trade from one you close this afternoon — and the market gets a week to disagree with you.

Time to sell

The best net sell price is an asking price on a venue where somebody still has to want your item. A thin market can leave you holding the position long enough for the edge to evaporate.

Two identical names

Cross-market comparison matches on the item name. Float, pattern and stickers can make two same-named items genuinely different goods, and the cheap one is sometimes cheap for a reason.

Your own rails

We model each venue's payout costs, not your bank's. Card fees, conversion spreads and whatever your payment provider takes on the way out are yours — and they come off a thin edge fast.
Freshness

Is the spread still live when you act on it?

Sometimes. Treat a row as a shortlist, never as a fill.

How often the rows move

The comparison recomputes with our marketplace price syncs, which run on an hourly rhythm rather than tick by tick, and the page itself is cached for a few minutes on top of that.

What that means in practice

A row tells you where an edge existed recently and how big it was after fees. Whether that exact listing is still there when you click through is a question only the venue can answer.
  • Open the buy link and confirm the listing before you commit — the cheapest listing is always the first one to disappear.
  • The widest spreads are usually the least real: an item nobody is buying can sit mispriced for days precisely because nobody is trading it.
  • If you need the edge to survive while you act, prefer a liquid item with a smaller net spread over an illiquid one with a spectacular number.

The four ways cross-market goes wrong

None of these are exotic. All of them are common enough that we built the table around avoiding them.

Steam money isn't money

The single most expensive misunderstanding in skin arbitrage. A skin that 'sells for more on Steam' pays you in Steam Wallet balance, which cannot be withdrawn — you can only spend it back inside Steam. Our table pins Steam's net to zero and never treats it as a sell venue, so a Steam price can never inflate a spread.

Comparing sticker prices

Seller fees across the venues we track differ by a factor of several. Any comparison that skips them will reliably point you at the venue taking the biggest cut, because that is the venue with the highest listed price.

Trusting the headline gap

A 20% gross gap is an ordinary way to describe a trade that nets you 5%, or nothing at all. We show the gross gap because it is informative, and sort by the net one because that is the one you keep.

Acting on a stale row

Prices move between syncs and listings get taken. Use a row to decide what is worth looking at, then verify on the venue itself before you spend anything.
